I know it’s not Summer, Spring has barely sprung! with the snow making a late appearance {we finally got to use our sledges for the first time, Yay!} Spring is slowly appearing through the rain!!
I am calling this Cath Kidston inspired cushion cover, the Summer Granny Cushion after my little princess ‘Summer’ I was originally making this cushion for my craft room, but halfway through, Summer came up to me and said “Oh thank you mummy, I love it” how could I resist.
I love these colours together, they look great as a granny square and the stripes on the back make this a reversible cushion. you can have stripes or squares, depending on your mood.
This cushion cover has an overlapping flap closure on the back, secured with buttons. A simple scalloped edge along the opening flap and I used a neat little crab stitch to finish off the edges.

Cushion Construction
First…..weave in ends & block your pieces. Lay your granny square face down, large piece on top towards the bottom & the small piece on top, towards the top, over lapping the large piece. Hold together with stitch markers.
Nearly finished, just the border to go, Yay!
Border
Light Blue
Flip pieces over so your granny square is facing up, join in a corner & sc evenly around, with 1 sc in top of each dc & 1 sc in each ch space, 3 sc in each corner. Fasten off colour.
Lipstick
Again with granny square facing up, join with a sl st anywhere & rsc around. Fasten off colour.
Insert your cushion first before positioning your buttons as the thickness of your cushion might alter where they go, depending on how plump it is. Now sew the buttons onto the larger piece, and enjoy!!!!
I hope you enjoy making this cushion cover, I love mine Summer’s, it’s so colourful and bright. It’s a happy cushion, if there is such a thing!

Happy Hooking!
I love this cushion pattern Kelly. Crochet and a Cath Kidston inspired colour scheme is always going to be a hit with me! Loved the story about your daughter claiming this cushion as hers before you’d even finished – bless her. She has good taste! X
Thank you Kez.
Summer thinks everything I Crochet is for her! But she always tells me she loves it or it’s her favourite, so I don’t mind! x
