Inspiration & Design
I wanted to create a cowl scarf that is super soft and has incredible drape, so I used a cotton yarn along with a bigger hook than the one recommended on the label, to get that perfect slouchy look.
I’m a sucker for stripes plus I can never decide on just one colour, so stripes seemed the obvious choice for this cowl scarf.
To create the faux knit look on this scarf, I have used one of my favourite stitches, HDC in the 3rd loop, in the round.
Some rows are worked double stranded with kid silk yarn to add a little bit of soft fluffy texture. (this isn’t a necessity for the pattern, & can be worked with one type of yarn throughout)

Yarn
The Faux Knit Crochet Cowl is made using Friends Cotton 8/4 & Friends Kid Silk, both by Hobbii. Friends yarn has been created to match the colour of yarns with different fibres, it is easy to match & find the ‘yarn friend’ as they have the same shade number.
The two yarns shown in the picture above are both shade 13.
You can purchase the cotton yarn HERE & the Kid Silk yarn HERE from the Hobbii website.
Pattern Info
For this cowl scarf, you will use just one stitch to create a beautiful knit effect. It’s actually one of my favourite stitches, I used the the Half Double Crochet (US) (Half Treble Crochet UK) in the 3rd loop, in the round.
To give the cowl some added squishiness I have included a few double stranded rounds. By pairing up the incredible soft Kid Silk and the gorgeous Cotton 8/4, it really adds a new dimension of texture to the cowl.
This pattern includes the sizes for an adult (one size) and a child (one size).
Description
This pattern is suitable for beginners, as it only uses the one stitch. I’m sure you will love this super easy pattern. It’s a lightweight yet warm and snuggly cowl scarf, make it in the colours of your choice to match your wardrobe perfectly.

This pattern is written in US crochet terms
Abbreviations
CH – Chain.
SL ST – Slip Stitch
BB – Back Bump is the little bumps found on the reverse side of a chain. By working into the back bump of the chain, this makes the bottom of the work resemble the top, giving you a uniform look, top & bottom. Of course you may work into the chain as normal, the pattern will still work the same.
HDC – Half Double Crochet – Yarn over, insert hook, yarn over, pull the loop back through the stitch (three loops on hook) yarn over and pull through all three loops on your hook. (HTR – Half Treble Crochet in UK terms)
3rd Loop – The 3rd loop is the horizontal bar on the back of a HDC, it sits just under the ‘V’ which is the regular two bars that we normally work into when working a stitch. As this pattern is worked in the round, the 3rd loop will always be on the back of the work.
